CYCLE Kids 2009 Annual Report one of the 100 Best in the World

We are sending out a huge thank-you and congratulations to Robert Krivicich and his team at Weymouth Design. They designed the CYCLE Kids 2009 Annual Report, which has been chosen by Graphis as one of the 100 best reports in the world! Graphis is an international journal showcasing excellence in design and visual imagery.

It will be showcased in early March in the United Kingdom. Check out our report as well as other winners!

Cambridge Joins the Let's Move Initiative

We are excited to announce that Cambridge has been asked to participate in Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Initiative. Dr. Howard Koh, the United States Assistant Secretary of Health, joined CYCLE Kids and around 150 others in celebrating Cambridge being the newest addition to the 500 Let’s Move communities!

Seven years ago on a bike ride with a friend, Julianne Idlet had an epiphany: “We were discussing the rise in childhood obesity,” she says. “Suddenly I had the simple idea that more kids needed to ride bikes more often, and I could help.” So Julianne, 51, at that time a coach for the Harvard University cycling team and a marketing executive, founded Cycle Kids, a nonprofit that teaches fourth and fifth graders to ride bikes and make smart food choices.

CYCLE Kids Celebrates Green Commuters

On a chilly Friday morning, CYCLE Kids representatives found themselves mingling with the Harvard community, giving out bracelets, tattoos, and Clif Bars to the green commuters who attended the first Walk/Ride Day of 2011. Sponsored by the Harvard Square Business Association, the event featured a very green hot breakfast by Fire and Ice and other local eateries. The square filled with community leaders and representatives from diverse organizations promoting their ideas about how to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

Specialized Donates 30 Bikes Through Their “Likes for Bikes” Campaign

Specialized culminated a three-month Facebook campaign to benefit CYCLE Kids by presenting us with 30 bicycles at our First Annual Gala Event. This generous donation will enable CYCLE Kids to launch three new programs in Cambridge schools, teaching kids not only how to ride bikes, but a valuable curriculum that includes nutrition, literacy, safety, and confidence. These programs will have a positive impact on hundreds of kids over the next decade.

Likes 4 Bikes

Specialized Bicycles is partnering with local nonprofit CYCLE Kids to help fight the national epidemic of childhood obesity by giving bikes to 4th and 5th graders in the city of Cambridge. Specialized Bicycles’ "Likes for Bikes" campaign launched last month on Facebook: for every 1,000 people that “like” the iamspecialized.com Facebook page, Specialized will donate one bike towards a CYCLE Kids program that will be given to a Cambridge school.

Until November 1st, for every 1000 ‘Likes’ of its official Facebook page, Specialized Bicycles will donate a bike to CYCLE Kids, a nonprofit battling obesity and inactivity among youth. For every 10 bikes they receive, CYCLE Kids can start a cycling program at a school, positively impacting the lives of 150 kids or more each year.

Commissioner Haas Presents New Bicycles and Helmets to CYCLE Kids Contest Winners at the Morse School

June 23, 2010 -- Commissioner Robert C. Haas of the Cambridge Police Department presented new bicycles, helmets, and locks to two 4th grade students from the Morse School in Cambridge as part of the CYCLE Kids initiative. Commissioner Haas is an avid bicyclist and was proud to take part in this event to support CYCLE Kids and the work they are doing to educate children and help them make healthy lifestyle choices.

As residents and businesses of Harvard Square come together to welcome back Harvard alumni, keep an eye out for a special hello from CYCLE Kids.

In honor of National Bike Month, CYCLE Kids will be out on Palmer Street to welcome these returning alumni and their families and to test their bicycle safety and nutrition knowledge.
