Boston’s Top Injury Law Firm Donates Helmets to CYCLE Kids Programs in Somerville, MA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Boston’s Top Personal Injury Law Firm, Breakstone, White & Gluck, P.C., continues to support the health and safety of Massachusetts children by donating over 300 helmets to CYCLE Kids students in Somerville, MA.
Somerville, MA (June 23, 2014)- CYCLE Kids, Inc., a non-profit organization that promotes healthy lifestyles for youth and families, was thrilled to partner with ongoing sponsors Breakstone, White & Gluck, LLC (BWG) to award each ‘CYCLE Kid’ participating in the CYCLE Kids program in Somerville Elementary Schools this year, with a helmet.
The CYCLE Kids program has been part of the curriculum for the Somerville Elementary School system for 10 years, and is part of a citywide effort to increase daily physical activity and healthy eating through programming, physical infrastructure improvement, and policy work.
CYCLE Kids was first taught as an afterschool program but participation grew steadily each year, and by 2010 the CYCLE Kids program was piloted as a part the physical education classes for five of the elementary schools in Somerville. Just one year later, the CYCLE Kids program was mandated as a required component of physical education classes for all seven elementary schools in Somerville.
The CYCLE Kids programs in Somerville can contribute much of their success to the support and participation of the Community Police Officers. Officer Marianne Manfra has been volunteering at programs since they started and sees it as a great way to build connections between the Police and children. “In the beginning of the CYCLE Kids program, the children can be intimidated by me. But, by the end I have a new group of friends! I feel so lucky to teach these kids how to ride a bike. It’s my favorite part of being a Community Police Officer.”
On Tuesday, June 24th, the CYCLE Kids team was fortunate to attend a graduation ceremony to conclude the CYCLE Kids program at Albert F. Argenziano School in Somerville. Starting with words from Mayor Joseph Curtatone, Superintendent Tony Pierantozzi, and members of the Somerville Police department, children were reminded about the importance of healthy lifestyles and how crucial wearing a helmet is to bike safety. Then, the adults sat back as some truly amazing children spoke of their experience in the CYCLE Kids program and how it impacted their confidence, their friendships with peers, and fostered relationships with Somerville Police Officers.
After the speeches ended, each child was called up to receive their certificate of achievement and be given a helmet from Attorney Marc Breakstone, of Breakstone, White, and Gluck, P.C. Marc was elated to participate and said, “It is a priority for our firm to contribute to safety programs that aim to prevent brain injuries in children, and supporting the CYCLE Kids programs in Somerville was the perfect opportunity to continue those efforts. I left the gymnasium on a cloud. It was a great event.”
CYCLE Kids Founder and Executive Director, Julianne Idlet, was overjoyed to return to a community who has been a wonderful partner over the years, and have BWG give this gift to Somerville students. “Our friends at BWG help us keep kids safe through these generous helmet donations. They also sponsor and volunteer at our annual charity bike ride Breakaway. They are wonderful supporters and we’re thrilled to have the children in Somerville, a community that has embraced the CYCLE Kids program for many years now, be the recipient of this gift.”
The CYCLE Kids graduation ceremony at the Argenziano School was a perfect close the program and the school year. Thanks to the generous donation from Breakstone, White & Gluck, P.C over 300 youth participants at Arthur D. Healey, Benjamin G. Brown, East Somerville Community, John F. Kennedy, West Somerville Neighborhood, Winter Hill Community, and Albert F. Argenziano schools can ride safely into their summer vacation!
